What is a Certificate of Authenticity?
When you buy a valuable product or a unique piece of fine art, you might feel the need to be certain that what you have purchased is authentic and creditable.
When a work of art is complemented by a Certificate of Authenticity, it means that the buyer is acquiring a genuine product. In addition to this you can be sure that you are dealing with a reputable seller.
A Certificate of Authenticity is issued by the creator of an artwork to ensure that what is being purchased is authentic and that is created by that artist.
A Certificate of Authenticity contains information that educates the buyer about the product or artwork. It usually contains the name of the artist, the title of the work (or “Untitled” if the artist did not title it), the size and medium used to create the work of art and the signature of the artist authorizing that those information are accurate.
Usually only one Certificate of Authenticity is issued per artwork and is valid for the entire lifetime of the product; it should be kept in a safe place and it should be transferred to the new owner in the event of the resale of the artwork.
